The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work in the College of Arts & Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin September 1st, 2026.


Major/Essential Functions
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Sociology or a highly related field from an appropriately regionally or nationally accredited university. If clarification is needed, please email the search chair.
  • A record of consistent effort in i) teaching excellence and ii) improving teaching and/or mentorship in higher education. Experience as a doctoral student may fulfill this criterion.
  • Research experience and publication record in the areas of environmental sociology.
  • We are particularly interested in someone who can support the university's strategic research area of Coupled Urban & Rural Environmental Sustainability (CURES). For more information, see https://www.depts.ttu.edu/research/strategicresearch/cures.php.


Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • Experience working in a transdisciplinary fashion with experts from disciplines other than sociology.
  • Experience securing or working with external research funding
