ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The UTEP Department of Sociology & Anthropology is the historical home of the field of U.S.-Mexico Border Studies and had a major role in the growth of border studies as a global academic field. The department has 16 tenured and tenure-track faculty members. We have an active M.A. program and a vibrant research agenda especially concerned with Latinx Studies, U.S.-Mexico Border Studies, immigration, crime, environmental justice, social inequality, race/ethnicity, gender, health issues, and the US Southwest.



Job Description:


The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Department of Sociology & Anthropology, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sociology or Anthropology (and cognate fields). The purpose of this position is (1) to contribute to our strengths in environmental justice issues, the U.S.-Mexico border, and social inequality, and (2) to contribute to efforts to obtain a doctoral program for the department. All areas of Environmental Sociology or Anthropology will be considered, but we are especially interested in expertise in water, wind or solar energy and their effects on local/indigenous communities, borders, land rights, and sustainability issues. Faculty with research interests that will benefit from our primarily Latinx student population are especially encouraged to apply.



Requirements:


A Ph.D. in Sociology, Anthropology (or cognate fields); published research; potential to attract external funding; and the ability to teach and direct graduate research, with a high level of productivity.
